The Take Back Bag is the simplest way to recycle unwanted clothing and textiles. Fill it up, send it back, and we'll divert it from landfills and make sure everything finds a new home. Plus, you'll earn 30 ReNewItCash™ for each bag, which you can redeem for deals at your favorite brands.

When will I receive my Take Back Bag?

Your Take Back Bag ships in 24 hours and will arrive within 10-14 business days.

How do I send my items back for recycling?

You can scan the QR code on your bag for shipping instructions! Generate your free shipping label and drop your bag off at any UPS location.

What can I put in the Take Back Bag?

You can recycle a variety of items with the Take Back Bag. Here's a breakdown:

We accept pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, jackets, socks (even single socks), washed underwear, sweatshirts, swimwear, dresses, tops, leggings, sports bras, jerseys, uniforms, and kids' clothing.

Shoes
Send us sneakers, boots, high heels, sandals, mules, slides, and even single shoes!

Home Goods
We take back unsoiled bath towels, robes, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, down comforters, and duvet covers (no grease stains, please; grease can clog the recycling machines).

We welcome bags, backpacks, purses, clutches, crossbody bags, belts, suspenders, hats, caps, helmets, jewelry, scarves, handkerchiefs, and bandannas.

Can I recycle non-clothing textiles in the Take Back Bag?

Yes, you can recycle shoes, bags, accessories, costumes, jewelry, and most textile home goods (as long as they're not soiled).

What happens to my items after I send them back?

We sort your items into over 250 categories. Around 70% are re-used globally, while over 20% are recycled into new fibers and for uses like pet bedding and building materials.

What is ReNewItCash™ and how can I use it?

ReNewItCash™ is our rewards platform. Redeem your ReNewItCash™ for rewards on ReNewIt.io. It's our way of rewarding you for recycling with us.

When will I receive my ReNewItCash™?

You'll receive ReNewItCash™ after registering your Take Back Bag. Soon, we will be changing this policy to award you with ReNewItCash™ upon shipping. We are planning to make this change to incentivize you to actually drop off your stuff and recycle it. We're lazy too, so we know that a TBB can sit in your closet, car, or entryway for months. We think this change will provide a nice nudge to keep stuff out of landfills.

The Tech Take Back Box

What is the Tech Take Back Box?

The Tech Take Back Box is a service that allows you to recycle old and unwanted electronics safely and sustainably. Simply fill the box with eligible electronic and technology items and send it back to us using the provided shipping materials.

What happens to my data?

Using advanced sanitization processes, we permanently erase data in compliance with the strictest standards, including DoD 5220.22 and NIST 800-88. This ensures complete data security while allowing assets to be securely refurbished and resold.

Why can’t certain items be accepted?

Some items pose safety risks, such as loose lithium batteries or specific hazardous materials. Others may not fit our processing capabilities or compliance regulations.

Where is recycling done?

All recycling and data destruction happen in the U.S., using advanced in-house shredding systems to recover valuable materials like steel, copper, and plastics. We prioritize in-house processing in North America to ensure the highest levels of security throughout the recycling and refurbishing process. By managing everything internally, from data destruction to material recovery, we maintain strict control over sensitive information, safeguarding against potential breaches. This in-house approach guarantees that data is securely handled and destroyed on-site, providing peace of mind while maximizing the recovery of valuable materials.

Why does 85% of e-waste end up in the trash?

E-waste ends up in the trash due to a lack of awareness about recycling programs, limited access to proper facilities, and concerns about data security. Many people find it more convenient to discard electronics than to recycle them, often underestimating their value as a source of reusable materials. The rapid pace of technology upgrades further compounds the issue, leading to a surplus of discarded items without clear guidance for proper disposal.

What happens if I lost the QR Code insert to register my box?

If the QR Code insert included in the Tech Take Back Box is lost or thrown out, you can contact our customer service team at help@ReNewIt.io for a new one.

Do I need to put the lithium battery stickers on the box?

Yes, please put both lithium battery stickers included in your package in a visible location on the outside of your Tech Take Back Box. The stickers should be put on the box, no matter what the contents are. If your stickers have been lost or thrown out, please contact our customer service team at help@ReNewIt.io for new ones.

What can I put in the Tech Take Back Box?

We accept the following items:

What items are NOT accepted in the Tech Take Back Box?

We cannot accept the following due to safety and processing limitations:

Loose external batteries (e.g., household alkaline or loose lithium)
Airpods or headphones
Smartwatches
Loose hard drives
Keyboards and mice
Inkjet cartridges and toner
Light bulbs
Speakers and microphones
Apple Airtags, toys, electronic thermometers, electric toothbrushes
Hazardous waste (e.g., paint, chemicals, pressurized canisters)
Medical/Biohazard waste
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats, clocks
Kitchen appliances
Mixed magnetic tapes, CDs/DVDs, cassettes, and calculators

Can I send loose batteries?

No, loose household or lithium batteries cannot be shipped due to safety risks. Lithium batteries, when contained within devices like laptops or phones, are safe for transport, but loose or damaged batteries (e.g., swollen or visibly compromised) are hazardous and not allowed. If a device is cracked or broken, that’s fine to send as long as the battery is intact and securely inside the equipment. Batteries are removed from devices and handled safely at our facility to prevent any risks.

Can I use my own box to ship items?

Not with a standard purchase. For non-members, please use the physical Tech Take Back Box that we ship to you. For ReNewIt Unlimited members, the Tech Box is digital and uses a box from home. That membership-only option requires a standard corrugated box that is 10 lbs or less and no side longer than 16 inches, with the prepaid label we email. Using the correct option for your plan keeps tracking accurate and ensures safe processing. If you are not a member, wait for your shipped Tech Box and use that.

What condition does the e-waste need to be in?

We accept tech items in any condition—whether they are new, gently used, cracked, or broken.

How much does it cost to use the Tech Take Back Box?

Small Tech Take Back Box: £20, which holds up to 5 lbs and earns you 30 ReNewItCash.
Medium Tech Take Back Box: £25, which holds up to 10 lbs and earns you 40 ReNewItCash.

What is the size and weight limit for the Tech Take Back Box?

The weight limits for each size of the Tech Take Back Box are as follows:

Small Tech Take Back Box (11x2x8”): Holds up to 5 lbs of items including cords, phones, and other small devices.

Medium Tech Take Back Box (11x3x15”): Holds up to 10 lbs of items including Tablets, Laptops, Cords, Phones, and other accepted devices.

How does the shipping process work?

Each Tech Take Back Box comes with a prepaid shipping label, two lithium battery stickers for safety, and all necessary packaging materials. Be sure to attach both lithium battery labels to the outside of the box before shipping.

When sending in your Tech Box, please make sure to use the provided shipping label to return your box to us. Please do not use Take Back Bag shipping labels to send e-waste, as these are for different purposes. We also cannot accept e-waste sent in your own packaging - please use the provided box and instructions to ensure everything is processed properly.
